“We want him transferred to another council to allow development to take place” Councilors Letter.

Councilors of the Freetown City Council have written a complaint letter against their Chief Administrator Festus Kallay. The letter addressed to the Local Government ministry accused the CA of sowing discord among staff, malice and practicing divide and rule police.

“For the past 8 months, the Chief Administrator has deliberately refused to sign documents relevant to the development of the city. He has created a situation of divide and rule and there is continuous insubordination to the Mayor, a situation that is affecting the development of the city”, the councilors alleged in the letter.

The letter further referenced part five of the local government act which mandates the CA to among other things implement lawful decisions, and advice the council leadership in the interest of the municipality. In that regard, the councilors who are mostly from the opposition APC party are calling on the Minister of Local Government to transfer the Chief Administrator Festus Kallay to another council to allow development to take place in the municipality. The CA Kallay, has not yet responded to the letter and its allegations.

In a separate incident, few hours after the councilors published their letter, the Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyer was invited by the Anti-Corruption Commission to answer queries related to findings contained in the 2019 audit report.

“Today, 14th July 2021, I have been invited by the Anti-Corruption Commission to answer questions related to findings in the 2019 Audit Report. Whist I have not been informed about what specific issues will be discussed, I am aware that it is part of ongoing routine investigations into the Audit Report findings. Other core members of FCC staff, including the chief administrator and the finance officer, have already gone through similar questioning”, Mayor Sawyerr posted on Facebook.
