The President of the world football governing body FIFA Gianni Infantino and the president of CAF Patrice Motsepe are both in Sierra Leone to explore ways of developing football in the country. The team also paid a courtesy call on President Julius Maada Bio as state lodge. The FIFA and CAF delegations were received at the Lungi International Airport by the executive of the Sierra Leone Football Association SLFA.
Gianni Infantino said their visit is to preach unity, peace and togetherness in the administration of football in the country for the development of the game. He said FIFA has rules, regulations and that guides the beautiful game across the world. “FIFA stands for integrity, democracy and unity in the game. We can all succeed if we work together. Let us support one another to rebuild the country for the love of the beautiful game in the interest of the future generation”, the FIFA president said.
CAF president Patrice Motsepe said Sierra Leone has produced a list of talented football stars across the world. He pledged his commitment to supporting football in the country to the extent of giving it the opportunity of hosting major African football competitions in the near future.
President Julius Maada Bio welcomed the FIFA and CAF entourage for the first time to Sierra Leone. He said Football is a passion in the country loved and cherished by the people. “Football unites our people irrespective of their differences. That’s why it deserves all the support”, he said.

President Bio called on the executive of the SLFA to provide the necessary leadership that will allow the people to enjoy the game. He also called on FIFA and CAF to invest in building the infrastructure of football in the country. “We would love to host major African football competitions in the country if given the opportunity” he added. The presentation of a special football, jersey and FIFA to president Julius Maada Bio was part of the ceremony.
