Rashidatu Nabie an eleven-year-old rape victim has been laid to rest. She was buried in Ndeyahun village, Bonthe district, South. The child was allegedly gang raped and murdered by a group of men on August 21st in Mattru Jong sparking a call for justice.
Honorable Member of Parliament for constituency 092, Alice Jebbeh Kumabeh referred to the incident as an unfortunate human behavior that needs to be investigated for justice to prevail. “I am sad that such a cruel act happened to a child. It’s a slap to women’s rights and education”, she said.
Female Paramount chief Melrose Foster Gberie of Kpanda Kemoh chiefdom received the remains of the victim from the Bo Government Hospital where she was taken for postmortem. “If a child can be raped and killed, how safe are women who walk on long distances daily to trade and do agriculture”? She asked.
Police LUC Mattru division Samuel Kargbo urged protesters and Mattru residents to exercise patience and assured them of robust investigation that will enhance justice. He said their duty as a force is to ensure the citizens including women are safe in the community and will execute that mandate. “14 people are now in police custody in connection with the alleged rape and murder. We will get to the bottom of it” LUC Kargbo said.
Meanwhile, dozens of women activists, students, community leaders protested in Mattru Jong and called for justice as the eleven-year-old rape victim was being laid to rest. Rashidatu Nabie was a pupil of FAWE Primary school in Mattru and was supposed to be in class four when schools reopened this September. Her parents were in shock and were unable to speak to Mountain Waves blog.
Bonthe district is one of the districts with several cases of rape in Sierra Leone. Earlier this year, some traditional men allegedly attacked the residence of the female paramount chief and raped one of her relatives. The matter is still under investigation.

This ungodly act should come to an end by setting precedents on any one found guilty of the act. It’ll be nice again if you’ll have updated us agin with the procession photos as evidenced of the laying.
Sadding to hear this; but how many of this cases that have ever received attention of our social welfare children and gender Court? pheraphs this will pass the test. My condolences to the desessed.
